The Brussels University Hospital

A reference centre at international level, located in the heart of the Brussels Region, the Brussels University Hospital provides general, oncological and paediatric care of the very highest quality.

Since 2021, as part of a historic agreement between the City of Brussels and the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Brussels University Hospital (H.U.B) has grouped the Erasmus Hospital, the Institut Jules Bordet and the Queen Fabiola Children's University Hospital (HUDERF). Thanks to this grouping, the H.U.B. is today the University Hospital of the Université Libre de Bruxelles.

Uniting these three institutions of international renown has served to effectively pool their respective expertise and competence in offering excellent care for all. In addition to this core mission, the H.U.B. pursues scientific research and trains the nurses of the future.

As a university hospital, the H.U.B. provides the ideal environment for the transmission of knowledge between its constituent institutions. Training in all the healthcare professions (doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, lab technicians, etc.) is very much hands on, in close contact with the medical teams and patients.

Today the Brussels University Hospital has a staff of close to 6,000, making it one of the biggest employers in Belgium. The Patient's Interests, Respect, Commitment, Solidarity and Inclusion, and Free Inquiry are the values on which it is founded.

The Institut Jules Bordet

An integrated multidisciplinary centre, unique in Belgium and recognised internationally, the Institut Jules Bordet is an academic non-profit organisation devoted entirely to patients with cancer. With 250 hospitalisation beds, every year 6,000 patients receive care during hospitalisation and 60,000 attend for specialised consultations.

For more than 80 years the teams at the Institut Jules Bordet have been ensuring that patients benefit from diagnostic and treatment strategies at the forefront of progress in preventing, detecting and actively combating all types of cancer. The Institut Jules Bordet is home to 1,200 professionals and carries out major research activities that every year result in major discoveries. The Institut also provides high level university teaching.

The Clinical Trials Center

The Clinical Trials Center (CTC) is a cornerstone department within the H.U.B.

It serves as a pivotal support structure for both commercial and academic clinical research conducted by H.U.B researchers. Its primary mission is to offer comprehensive and professional assistance in managing clinical research by streamlining and harmonizing the administrative, operational (e.g., data management, monitoring, regulatory affairs), contractual, and financial aspects of clinical studies.

The success of clinical trials relies heavily on the close collaboration of multidisciplinary teams, including medical, scientific, and operational experts. With over 20 years of experience, the CTC has developed a broad spectrum of services for clinical study management, ranging from contractual support to full operational oversight. These services help researchers navigate the entire research process. Moreover, the CTC fosters an environment of research and innovation, encouraging synergies between academic partners, pharmaceutical companies, and other stakeholders in the healthcare sector.

The whole CTC team fight cancer through the design, set-up and conduct of innovative clinical studies that matters for patients.
